Wildlife Sound Recording Society

Probably the oldest sound recording society in existence in the world, the WSRS is for people with a passion for recording and learning about the sounds made by wildlife and the natural world.

In a new feature, I present a look at some of the marvellous recordings submitted for the annual competition that did not make the final cut. But which illustrate the wonderful wealth of wildlife sound - and talent - from locations and members across the globe.

To hear my own recordings, check out my podcast InTheSoundField - and join me for adventures in sound around the world: experience a swarm of half a million desert bees, take a dive down a prairie dog burrow, discover the sound of the ancient Chinese sheng, cycle tour across South Korea, discover the hidden voices of rocks, and enjoy the sounds of a vintage steam train.
